The Chapelle de l’Observance in Draguignan has launched its latest temporary exhibition: Panorama, featuring works by internationally renowned artist JonOne.

Born John Andrew Perello, JonOne began his graffiti career in the 1970s by tagging his name throughout New York City, particularly on subway trains. Now based in France since the 1990s, this American artist was awarded the prestigious French Legion of Honour for his contribution to the arts.

Presented for the first time at the Chapelle de l’Observance, JonOne’s striking abstract works are showcased in partnership with Art Consult Expert Gallery. Through this exhibition, the artist expresses his deep affection for France and its cultural heritage.

The exhibition is open to the public until September 27.

The opening event took place in the presence of Richard Strambio, Mayor of the city, President of Dracénie Provence Verdon Agglomération, and Regional Councillor for Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur; Françoise Maurice, Deputy Mayor for Culture; and other local officials.

In 2024, alongside the Phase 4 expansion of Incheon International Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2), a large-scale “Art Project” was unveiled on December 3, further solidifying the terminal’s identity as an “Art Port.”

The newly revealed Art Project includes nine art pavilions each on the east and west departure corridors (spanning approximately 1,930 meters in total length and covering 8,000㎡), as well as curated exhibitions featuring renowned Korean and international artists and traditional performances. Its key feature is providing travelers with extraordinary and immersive artistic experiences that go beyond the everyday.

The project takes a dual approach by interpreting Korean cultural content in contrasting ways for the east and west wings, creating a surprising and engaging dynamic. On the west departure corridor, world-renowned urban artist JonOne presents <Korea Jazz>, a work inspired by his travels through various regions of Korea including Seoul, Incheon, Jeonju, Gyeongju, and Jeju. Infused with JonOne’s signature abstract style, the piece follows the concept of “Playing with Colors”, expressing the spontaneity and freedom associated with jazz. The front side of the art pavilion features abstract forms, while the reverse side uses figurative techniques, offering a distinct and multidimensional artistic experience.

On September 2024, the Museum of Graffiti opened Street Echoes in Shanghai’s Changning District, its first exhibition in mainland China. Among the featured artists were DocTC5, Sabe, Mugre Diamanté, Ola Kalnins, and Vance DNA.

JonOne took part with a striking live painting session, covering an entire wall of skateboards in his signature abstract and calligraphic style. The performance added vibrant movement and color to the indoor skate park installation, blending street art with youth culture.

Known for his long-standing relationship with China, including a historic mural created inside Beijing’s Forbidden City, JonOne emphasized the influence of Asian aesthetics in his work. His Shanghai contribution reflected that ongoing dialogue, making his presence a key part of the exhibition’s dynamic atmosphere.

In June 2024, artist JonOne visited Ulsan as a representative of the participating artists for the opening of the special exhibition “From Bangucheon to Urban Art” at the Ulsan Museum of Art. The exhibition, held from June 27 to October 27, brought together eight internationally renowned urban artists including JonOne, Shepard Fairey, and Vhils under the theme of reinterpreting the ancient Bangucheon Petroglyphs in a contemporary urban context.

To mark the opening, JonOne performed a live graffiti session, spontaneously painting the exterior of a Hyundai car on site. He also created new artworks during the event, showcasing his signature dynamic and abstract graffiti style, which added vibrant energy to Ulsan’s urban landscape and helped bridge the gap between art and everyday life.

Attracting over 40,000 visitors over its four-month run, the exhibition was widely praised for bringing urban art into public spaces. JonOne’s performance and mural work received particular attention for transforming the museum experience into an immersive encounter with street art. His participation played a significant role in reinforcing Ulsan’s cultural identity, inspired by the Bangudae Petroglyphs, and supported the city’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for urban art.

In 2024, the renowned American graffiti artist JonOne illuminated Haumont’s cityscape with a vibrant street-art mural, adding a splash of color to a prominent wall in the town center. Located on Rue Gambetta near the port, this project was enthusiastically celebrated by locals, transforming an ordinary façade into a dynamic canvas. JonOne worked amidst a wave of community excitement, with local media highlighting his presence “en centre-ville après une fresque rue Gambetta.”

A photograph captured JonOne standing proudly before his creation, showcasing the mural’s bold visual impact and its contribution to Haumont’s urban heritage. Known for his colorful, freestyle abstractions, JonOne’s artwork now graces the building facing the port, infusing energy and a contemporary urban essence into the town’s identity. This mural not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of Haumont but also cements its reputation as a hub for vibrant street art, thanks to JonOne’s distinctive artistic vision.

On April 3, 2024, the Jupiter Museum of Art in Shenzhen unveiled Urban Vision: A Cross‑Cultural Exploration of Urban Art, a landmark exhibition curated by Magda Danysz, a leading figure in the global street art scene.

Among the highlights was a striking contribution from JonOne, whose vivid abstractions and electrifying visual language captured the raw energy of the streets while transcending cultural and geographic boundaries. His dynamic work played a key role in shaping the exhibition’s dialogue around urban aesthetics and international exchange.

Urban Vision marked a pivotal moment for Shenzhen, positioning the city as a rising center for contemporary street art and drawing widespread attention from both local and global audiences.

“NaLata Festival brings together artists from different generations, playing an important role in the dissemination and promotion of culture and urban art, and delivers a great artistic diversity to the city, which includes many different stories, styles and techniques.” says Luan Cardoso, NaLata’s artistic curator.

This year’s highlights include French self-taught artist JonOne, Spanish painter and sculptor Okuda, Portuguese painter and muralist Vhils, Sorocaba artist Dai, Rio de Janeiro-based visual artist Mulambö, São Paulo-based editorial photographer Renato Custodio, as well as works by Amanda Lobos, Carla Duncan, CRISPA, FLIP, MARIÊ, Rafael Highraff, Carol Calor and Fênix.

“The opening of the national selection revealed new talents and strengthened the diversity that we seek in art and is one of NaLata’s main objectives,” says Luiz Restiffe, a partner at Agência InHaus, the festival’s producer.

Fabien Castanier Gallery is excited to present a solo exhibition for contemporary artist JonOne. This will be the sixth dedicated show for the artist, a monumental and significant exploration of his global legacy. New paintings and installation capture the essence of an artist whose work has influenced a generation of image-makers and who continues to push boundaries with his creative vision.

Accompanying his new works on canvas, JonOne will complete a large-scale mural on the exterior of the Fabien Castanier Gallery space. Spanning 124 ft. (39m), the mural is an extension of the exhibition – a reminder of the foundation of his oeuvre and the roots of his storied evolution. From graffiti to gallery, JonOne exudes the grand journey of the contemporary urban artist. Forging his own path, his collection of newest pieces brings forth an energy that reflects his identity not only as a painter but as an individual in an ever-changing world.

JonOne’s work is a lens into a complex and vibrant world. He presents emotions through movement and color that act as a catalyst for self-reflection. An innovative dissection of composition and gesture is displayed within his abstract expressionism, and with relative ease the artist can conjure moments of joy and sorrow within a simple frenetic brush stroke. His command of color is triumphant yet subtle, as he plays with alternative palettes and bright shifts in pigment that appear exciting and harmonious to the eye. His work, as always, is approachable by definition – never pretentious or exclusionary. Paintings that are universal and enduring preside as they inspire creativity and expression within us all.
